The 2015 edition of the marathon followed a predominantly similar route to last year with a couple of tweaks here and there to account for tree felling of some tree compartments but the usual suspects were still on the route to make things exciting. Rene’s rumble, the gauntlet, bat out a hell, Lebanon climb, Campbell’s climb and other sections that either spark a smile or clenching of the jaw, all played some part in the 2015 race.
I had the confidence that Tyronne knowing the route, he would be able to hit the last long section of single track and pick up the pace. I would then let him ride ahead and force the other two to chase him down then I would sling shot round to attack again. This plan worked well, fortunately for us...
Day 4 turned out to be a muddy quick race, the over night rain was more then expected and a lot of the roads and tracks were fairly sodden and muddy. The day was slightly shortened due to dangerous conditions in a critical area of the race route.
At this stage of an ultra marathon race your head is full of negative thoughts as you try and eek every bit of motivation out of the body and push the pedals harder
