Video showing segments of single track.
I hit the KOM at the top of the climb just behind Brendan and pushed hard to keep him in my sight, we then went through a long section of single track that descended off the mountain and I lost sight of Brendan. I knew I would have to keep my pace up as there was a group of riders who would be close behind if I tapped off the pace even just a little.
LOUW AND HILL TREK TO VICTORY AT ZUURBERG Stage 1 [...]
The 3day stage race starts and ends at the Cape Nature Sanddrif Capesite which is tucked under the red rock formations of the Cederberg range along the riverbank. Being a clover leaf type route allows riders to explore the area and the local trails and tracks whilst always returning to the race village comforts. We arrived on the Thursday afternoon and completed registration before settling down on the river banks for some rest and recovery before the racing started the following day.
The wine 2 whales is the cape equivalent to the sani2C in terms of participatory numbers, type of trails and distances. Its hugely popular and beautifully scenic. Making it one of the most enjoyable stage races I’ve done. Darren and I wrote a report after each day.
